Riverbank Medical Centre

HOW DO I...
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

Appointments can be booked up to a month in advance with the doctor of your choice (subject to availability) or up to 3 months in advance with a nurse.

If you have an urgent on-the-day problem and there are no bookable appointments left you will be invited to our sit & wait surgery at 12 noon and will see the next available doctor, or in some cases our nurse practitioner.

An emergency that arises in the afternoon which cannot wait until the following morning will usually be seen by our nurse practitioner.

We have found that many problems can be dealt with over the phone. This may save you a trip to the surgery. If the GP feels it would be more appropriate to see you, you will be offered an appointment.

Some problems, such as minor illnesses and blood pressure checks, can be dealt with by our experienced practice nurses or health care assistants. This will free up more time for GP appointments to address more difficult problems.

GP TRAINING

There are no doctors' appointments available on the third Thursday afternoon each month (except for August) from 1.00pm to allow the doctors to attend a regular training session. Appointments are available as usual during the morning and we continue to have nurse cover during the afternoon for pre-booked and emergency appointments (we do not undertake child vaccine or holiday vaccines during this time).

HOW DO I...
REQUEST A HOME VISIT?

Please only request visits if absolutely necessary as the doctor can see an average of four patients in surgery in the same time taken to do one home visit.

If you think you need a doctor to call on you at home, please contact us as soon as possible but certainly before 10.00am. Your request will be passed on to a doctor who may ring you to assess the problem.

Visits are normally undertaken at any time between 1.00 and 3.30pm. You should therefore not expect the doctor to arrive immediately following the end of morning surgery.

Home visits are not available to assist with problems of transport or social issues beyond our control.

HOW DO I...
OBTAIN TEST RESULTS AND/OR MAKE AN ENQUIRY?

Please ring for results of blood tests, x-rays etc, and general enquiries, daily between 11.00am and 1.00pm. Please leave seven working days before making enquiries about your results.

Results will only be given to the person who has had the test unless prior written consent (form available from reception) has been given for someone else to obtain results on their behalf. No discussion will be entered into.

HOW DO I...
REGISTER WITH THE PRACTICE?

If you reside within the practice boundary (see the practice map on this site for the specific area), and our list is currently open, we will be happy to register you and your family with the practice. Ask at reception for a registration and new patient health information form for each member of your family. This will enable us to get to know you and your medical needs, while we wait for your main medical records to arrive.

Complete these forms in full and attend personally with them and the requested documentation. This will allow staff to check the forms in your presence and request further details if required.
